Online ordering without delivery app fees

Orderzest 4 min read

You do not need a marketplace to offer online ordering. A branded page on your own link can cover delivery, collection and dine-in without per-order fees.

Own the checkout, keep the margin

Delivery apps are logistics plus marketing plus checkout — bundled at a price that assumes you cannot do those jobs yourself. Many restaurants already have drivers, already have regulars, and already have a Google profile. What they lack is a clean order page.

Commission-free online ordering means:

  • Guests order on your URL
  • You set menu, hours and zones
  • You pay software, not a cut of sales

What “your own link” should include

A usable ordering system for independents usually needs:

  1. Service types — delivery, collection, dine-in
  2. Menu structure — categories, modifiers, add-ons
  3. Hours & prep times — per service if needed
  4. Delivery rules — map zones, minimums, fees
  5. Confirmations — guest and restaurant notifications
  6. Share paths — website button, QR, social bio

Orderzest includes those in one plan. Details: online ordering system.

How guests find you without an app store listing

You already have distribution if you use it:

  • Google Business Profile ordering link
  • Instagram / Facebook bio
  • One-line website widget or button
  • QR codes on tables and packaging
  • SMS / WhatsApp to regulars

Marketplaces sell convenience. Your own link sells the restaurant they already chose.

Pricing that does not scale against you

Percentage fees grow with success. Flat fees do not. Orderzest is €10/month after a 14-day free trial, with 0% commission. Payment processor card fees still apply when guests pay by card — that money goes to the processor, not as a platform cut on top.

Migration note for GloriaFood restaurants

If your current “own link” is GloriaFood, plan the move before 30 April 2027. Start with the shutdown guide and alternative comparison. We rebuild menus free.

Launch checklist

  • Menu live with modifiers
  • Hours correct for this week
  • Delivery zone tested with a real address
  • Test order completed end-to-end
  • Website / GBP / QR updated
  • Staff know where new tickets appear

Start free when you are ready — no card required for the trial.

Extra operational notes restaurants ask about

Staff adoption matters more than feature lists. Pick one person to own the new link for the first two weeks: they check that tickets arrive, that printers or phone alerts work, and that delivery drivers still understand the address format. A quiet Tuesday is a better cutover day than Saturday brunch.

Write a three-line guest message you can reuse on Instagram Stories, WhatsApp broadcasts and email: what changed, what stayed the same (your food), and the new link. Guests forgive a software change when the message is clear and the food is familiar.

If you run more than one branch, migrate one location first. Prove the kitchen flow, then clone hours, zones and menus. Trying to flip every branch on the same afternoon creates support noise you do not need during service.

Keep a short rollback plan for seventy-two hours: old link still live but unpromoted, new link in every bio, one manager with authority to pause online ordering if the POS or printer misbehaves. After three clean services, remove the old buttons.

Finally, measure the right thing. Track orders on your own link weekly, marketplace commission paid monthly, and no-show rate on reservations. Those three numbers tell you whether the switch is working faster than any vanity dashboard.

For Orderzest specifically, use the free trial to place real test tickets, then subscribe only when the floor team is comfortable. Migration help and pricing are on the site; the goal is a boringly reliable Friday night, not another complicated vendor relationship.

A second-week checklist

  • Confirm every public QR code resolves to the new page
  • Remove outdated “Order with …” buttons from the website footer
  • Train one backup person on refunds and cancelled bookings
  • Screenshot your delivery zone map for the records
  • Add the ordering link to Google Business Profile if you have not already
  • Ask three regulars to place a real order and reply with friction notes
  • Schedule a thirty-minute review after fourteen days of live traffic

None of this is glamorous. It is how restaurants keep weekends calm while the industry toolscape keeps changing.
